MBBR Biochip
Thin MBBR Biochip (a kind of biofilm sheets) providing uniform microbial attachment, enhancing water treatment efficiency in recirculating aquaculture systems.

MBBR Biochip

The MBBR biochip (Mobile Bed Biofilm Reactor chip) is the next-generation biological filtration medium specifically designed for the recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). These ultra-thin biofilm sheets provide a high-performance surface for the uniform attachment of microorganisms, which helps to rapidly convert harmful ammonia (NH3) and nitrite (NO2) into harmless nitrate.

By stabilizing the water chemical environment and supporting dense microbial growth, the MBBR biochip provides a healthy and balanced environment for intensive fish farming, while significantly reducing the operational footprint.

Technical Advantages

Optimized biofilm structure: This thin and flat structure ensures that microorganisms can fully obtain nutrients and oxygen, thereby avoiding the “dead zone” phenomenon commonly seen in traditional thick media.
Fast microbial colonization: The surface material is specially designed to facilitate the rapid attachment of microorganisms, enabling the biofilter to reach its optimal treatment capacity faster than traditional carriers.
High surface area advantage: The design aims to provide more active biological surface area per cubic meter, thereby improving the overall treatment efficiency of the biofiltration system.

Minimum head loss: The streamlined design reduces the water resistance (i.e., head loss) inside the reactor, thereby reducing the energy consumption of the circulating pump.

Excellent durability: These biochips are made of high-quality, wear-resistant materials and can be immersed in saltwater and freshwater environments for a long time.

Core Applications

Enhanced Denitrification System: Suitable for high-density aquaculture, as rapid ammonia removal is crucial for the survival of fish in this farming mode.
Land-based Aquaculture: Improves the efficiency of biological towers and moving bed reactors in standardized farming modules.
Water Quality Stabilization Treatment: Ensures the continuous maintenance of an appropriate pH value and dissolved oxygen content through balanced biological activities.
Scalable Filtration System: Offers multiple customizable sizes and material options to suit various system scales, from small hatchery equipment to large industrial farm equipment.
